Tom Mandry may have a knack for getting hit, but not like this.
The Phillipsburg senior shortstop was plunked three times in his first three at-bats against Warren Hills Friday morning, taking the last pitch off the helmet -- in a game that featured a whopping total of eight hit batters.
“We’ve been getting hit by a lot of pitches this year," Stateliners coach Dylan Sapir said. "We try to tell our guys don’t be running out of the way — you can’t dive into a pitch, but they listened.
"... It seems like (Mandry) is a magnet for the ball. He got hit in the head last year, too.”
After the three pitches hit him, Mandry finally got a chance to hit one back in his fourth at-bat for an RBI single as part of Phillipsburg's 8-2 win at Joseph Steinhardt Memorial Field.
